Curiosity – Elegance on the Oceans

The MYBA Charter Exhibition in late April this year saw a massive display of maritime excellence as many brokerage groups in the yacht industry showed up to showcase their finest charter vessels. Among the top-rated brokerage firms that turned up was Fraser Yachts, a Monaco-based company.

Founded in 1947 by young and passionate David Fraser on the West Coast of the U.S, this group gradually expanded to Fort Lauderdale in the 70s, eventually merging with the European Company United Yachting in the 90s, when it added charter services to its business portfolio. Today, Fraser Yachts is the longest-standing full-service luxury yacht brokerage company in the world, with a legacy of high standards, integrity, and a passion for yachting shared by all its team members.

The company has 17 branch offices in different locations worldwide, with teams over 170-strong, including specialists in over 50 key aspects of luxury yacht services, from ownership and construction to charter and crew placement. Fraser Yachts is distinguished by its drive for environmentally sustainable luxury yacht services, a concern that has resulted in a partnership with Plastic Oceans geared towards reducing plastic pollution in the world’s water bodies.

We had the privilege to get on board Curiosity, the company’s exhibit at this year’s charter show. This outstanding 45-meter piece of floating elegance aptly portrays the company’s dedication to top-notch quality and elegance. This motor yacht comes from a period thought of as the best in spatial and architectural ideation, having been built in Italy in 1985 by the acclaimed yacht-building enterprise Cantieri Navali Nicolini Srl.

Featuring an exterior design by the famed Dubois Naval Architects and Nicolini, this yacht ranks among the top 30% in overall length. She sports a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure, with a beam measuring 7.54 meters, a 3.4-meter draft, and a gross tonnage of 320. Curiosity has undergone a number of refits throughout her history, with the most recent lasting two years and ending in 2021. As a result, she has added an extra 2 meters of length to her four-deck structure, with a total of 200 square meters of exterior space available to suit guests’ needs. She is currently the third largest yacht built by Nicolini and the 1846th in the world.

Curiosity has a fuel capacity of 62,000 liters and can hold up to 12,000 liters of water on board. But even more impressive is her engine and speed performance. Powered by two MTU thermal combustion engines (via an Azipod thruster powered by one of her two generators), she can cruise at a speed of 12 knots and attain a maximum speed of 16 knots. With this eco-friendly engine, she can cruise for as much as 2500 nautical miles and travel twice that far.

After her extensive refit from 2019 to 2021, she now has a more modern open-plan layout on her exterior with the addition of a very spacious sunbathing area at the bow. More modern features on her upper deck exterior include a flexible and state-of-the-art tented gym, a seven-seater jacuzzi pool, a sushi bar, a stage-like kitchen, and a lounging area. Then, there is her main deck with an inviting alfresco dining area and now-extended swim platforms that can serve as yoga platforms as well as a water sports base.

Her interior design reveals the genius of Reed Creative. The most striking thing about it is the masterful preservation of 70s interior decor but with a modern twist. Her natural fiber fabrics exhibit expert retro-inspiration and are tempered with cognac-colored leather and briarwood accent, creating an aura of familiarity and calmness. She is fitted with a state-of-the-art air conditioning system which serves to regulate the interior temperatures as desired, as well as modern AV/IT technologies (especially WiFi!).

Curiosity’s accommodation capacities are another fantastic feature. With six luxurious and spacious staterooms, she can hold up to 12 guests in addition to 10 crew members (including the captain) housed in the extra crew cabins. The spacious master suite is situated on the main deck right in the beam, and it features a king-size bed, a state-of-the-art bathroom, and a study. In addition to the master suite, there is a VIP suite on the upper deck plus the four other suites located lower. Altogether, Curiosity holds seven beds: a king-size bed, two double beds, four single beds, and a convertible bed.

To crown off the experience, Curiosity maintains a wide array of water toys to enable guests to have a fun time on the water. These include a jet ski, a water ski, a wakeboard, a two-person banana, two paddleboards, and two kayaks. There is also a Castoldi Jet Tender 17 with a 120-horsepower engine. All in all, if there is one word that sums up Curiosity, it is “elegance.”

Curiosity is available for voyages to the Mediterranean, especially to such hotspots as Corsica, Sardinia, and the French Riviera. That unforgettable summer yacht cruise experience is available for you aboard Curiosity. If you wish to get a booking or make further inquiries, you can contact Fraser Yachts.
